Gigapixel pictures are pictures in extremely high resolution. Nowadays a good camera has a resolution of approx. 0.01 Gigapixel (10 Megapixel), absolute high end cameras 0.05 Gigapixel (50 Megapixel).
To reach an extremely high resolution in the area of one Gigapixel, a panorama with about 120 pictures is needed.
